Update for Week Ending February 16, 2018

This weekly post highlights the past week’s activity and provides notice of hearings scheduled during the next few weeks.  In addition, the 2018 NH Legislative Session – Bill Status Page, is updated each week with known activity so that by one click you can have the complete background on a particular issue.

There are three scheduled hearings next Tuesday on bills of interest to NHNA and New Hampshire Nurses.  They are as follows:

            SB 426                        Regarding Primary Care Workforce   02-20-18, 1:15 pm       SH 100

            SB 313                        Regarding Medicaid Expansion         02-20-18, 1:30 pm       Reps Hall

            SB 421                        Regarding Oral Contraceptives          02-20-18, 1:45 pm       SH 100

SB 434 (AN ACT relative to school nurse certification): On February 15, 2018 the Senate passed this bill and it moved to the House for consideration.  NHNA supported this bill.

HB 1259 (AN ACT relative to passenger restraints): Joan Widmer, Nurse Executive Director of NHNA attended and testified in support of this bill at the public hearing on February 6, 2018.  The majority of those that spoke, testified in support of this bill.  But House leadership, through Rep. Packard (Rockingham, 05), testified in opposition to this bill.  Call to Action:  send an email to membership of the House Committee on Transportation sharing your support for this bill before February 20th (Use this link for a list of committee members:  http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/house/committees/committeedetails.aspx?code=H27)

HB 1471 (AN ACT relative to telemedicine):  On February 14, 2018 this bill moved to subcommittee for consideration, it is not due out until March 6, 2018.

HB 1556 (AN ACT relative to licensing requirements for barbers, cosmetologists, estheticians, and licensed nursing assistants): On February 13, 2018 this bill moved to subcommittee for further consideration.

HB 1822 (AN ACT making hormonal contraceptives available directly from the pharmacist by means of a standing order):  On February 14, 2018 this bill moved to subcommittee for further consideration, it is not due out until March 6, 2018.

SB 313 (AN ACT reforming New Hampshire's Medicaid and Premium Assistance Program):  This bill was finally released on Thursday, February 15, 2018 and a public hearing is scheduled for February 20, 2018 at 1:30 pm in the Representative’s Hall in the State House.  This hearing will be streamed so if you are interested in watching you can see it on:  http://sg001-harmony.sliq.net/00288/Harmony/en/PowerBrowser/PowerBrowserV2/20180220/1024/1526
